"After the Prophet" by Lesley Hazelton

"After The Prophet: The Epic Story Of The Shia Sunni Split In Islam" by Lesley Hazelton is one of the finest books written on the topic of shia-sunni problem in Islam. It is based on a neutral narrative and both the shia and sunni views about the incidents are given equal preference by the author in describing the incidents that took place after the death of Prophet Muhammad.
The book can be downloaded in PDF format from here.

Highly recommended for reading to those people who want to understand the basis of conflicts between Sunnis and Shias.

  4. Many books are written by these kind of writers to create more difference among Muslims . We must be aware of that. Also without deep knowledge on any topic/subject we should not arrive at any conclusion.
Last but not the least, Prophet (S.A.W) bought Islam on earth not Shia or Sunni. We are Muslims followers of Islam. Shia and Sunni are our creation not Prophet (S.A.W) or Hazrat Ali (R.A) or Sahabas (R.A) 's creation.

  5. Sorry for interruption but u should know that Western writers use to read more than our writers. Eastern writers' horizon of reading is very limited unlike western writers. Thats why we can say that their writings are more solid than our and they also don't favour any sect because they don't believe in sects in Islam. I think instead of cursing them we should first ponder over ourself and should have the courage to accept reality.

  6. I believe there are many books written by both the Muslims and the Non Muslims regarding the Islamic history. Which not everyone agrees upon. Hence the need arises that one seeks the help of the ONLY accurate book and that is the Quran. For it is the word of Allah and only He knows of the past, the present and the future.
So whenever one reads a book on our history use the word of Allah for it's validation.

  8. The problem with Islamic History is that they were written by Defeated Persians like Tabari was a Persian from Tabaristan who first learned Arabic than he wrote the book.

  9. No matter how unbiased they posed the western orientalists first and foremost effort has always been to prove with dubious historical sources that Islam itself is based on bigotry, cruelty and barbarism.Especially through these books they tried to realize Muslims that benevolent Islamic State is an impossible mirage being chased by Muslim whic in their conclusion never existed in history. Please be very careful while reading there books and do not take their every word as Gospel truth.
